The Zipline

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

When my husband said let’s go ziplining during our honeymoon, I thought he was kidding. But even now as I climb the stairs to the top, I silently pray he’s going to stop me, laughing and say this is a joke. Except I knew he wouldn’t, he was much too excited to joke about this. After about ten minutes of climbing and walking, we finally made it to the top of the wooden tower. What I saw from the top of that wooden tower, will stay with me for the rest of my life. The trees stood perfectly still as if frozen by time, as a thin layer of mist coated the leaves. The cloudy sky cast a shadow over the forest making the greenery seem even more vibrant. As I was taking in the scene, I was being strapped into my harness while my husband attached a Go-Pro camera to my helmet, that was his idea not mine. He wanted to capture everything I yelled as I went down the line, whilst he was wearing one meant to capture the beauty. Great...anyway it was time for me to go down the line. My heart was beating so fast I could have sworn it was going to leap up my throat and fly away. But it was too late to turn back, so I closed my eyes and stepped off. I will admit I had my eyes closed most of the time and I was screaming, so I couldn’t experience all of the beauty around me as much as I wish I had. But when I went back and watched the video, I saw an entirely different world beneath me. Full of life, and magic. Now I just wished I could go back to that day, and open my eyes.
